Early Intervention Services for Youth and Young Adults at Risk for Psychosis
As an early intervention model, CHR provides a continuum of care to provide outreach, psychoeducation, and intervention services to prevent onset of further symptoms. Research has shown that an early intervention approach for those at a higher risk for psychosis, improves symptoms, decreases overall disability, and improves age appropriate behavior at home, school, and work.
Who Is Best Served By CHR?
Individuals best served by CHR will be in the prodromal phase of psychosis.
Prodromal is defined as the period of subclinical signs and symptoms that appear prior to the onset of psychosis. This period can last for several weeks to several years and often presents in conjunction with multiple disorders. The youth and young adults that present with prodromal symptoms often experience disruptions in social, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning.
These individuals will meet one of three criteria:
- Family history of psychosis and recent functional decline
- Onset or worsening of Attenuated Positive Symptoms (i.e. unusual thought, hallucinations, suspiciousness, paranoia, or disorganized communication)
- Intermittent psychotic symptoms that are subthreshold
The individual must be between the ages of 12-25.
